Clear Creek

What to expect

Clear Creek offers fishable water spanning from Golden to above Georgetown. For anglers with limited time who want to stay near Denver, fishing around Golden and the lower canyon provides a great option. In the lower stretches below Idaho Springs, you’ll find a mix of rainbow trout, brook trout, and brown trout. The average size of the fish in this area ranges from 6 to 10 inches, with anything over 14 inches considered a healthy catch for the river. These fish are not heavily pressured and readily take bushy dry flies during the warmer months. This is a freestone river, so beware of the river level especially during late spring and runoff, as river levels can shift dramatically.
